Ok — a daily post…..right! I wrote the title yesterday (Monday). Today is Tuesday, 6 Nov 18. It’s Election Day. Please Vote.
So I’ve been busy the last few days working on existing commitments. I volunteer with a Get Out The Vote organization and spent time working to get people in my neighborhood to vote on Saturday. We also went to see my neighbor’s daughter win their regionals soccer game that night. Very exciting.
On Sunday, I started with some time sensitive work assignments then out into the yard to pick up after the dogs, mow and winterize the gardens. The picking up of the yard is a chore I actually love, just like bringing things out in the Spring. It marks a transition into opportunity. Whereas the Spring rings in the opportunity of outside activities, long days and fireside chats, the Fall opens the door to other possibilities. We have holidays bringing friends and family together, quiet darkness to open a book and learn something new, and cold night making spike hot cocoa a perfect drink.
For me this winter is full of promise. My wife declared “this is the last time I will experience an Ohio winter.” And with that the die has been cast. This winter will definitely be a time of transition. I want to make it a time of transformation.
So I continue my routine and will ramp it up slowly toward the New Year. By the time the New Year strikes it should be second nature, no resolutions. Yesterday and today I successfully got up out of bed. Our new puppy and I are still trying to decide on a routine. Do I let her out and feed her? Keep her in her kennel while I workout or not? It’s like parenting all over again. Needless to say I worked out. I’m up to 30min elliptical on #8 followed immediately by 22 crunches and 22 half push-ups.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot. Perfect lesson in procrastination and putting first things first. Last night I fixed two simple things I’ve been meaning to fix forever and my wife has reminded me of no less than a dozens times. Took all of 30mins to do both. Brought a small sense of accomplishment to me and gratitude and appreciation from my wife. Win-Win. Why did I not do those simple things when they first arose? Something to ponder.
I hope you have an awesome, inspirational day.
